    Heated mirror fluids?

    Heated mirror fluids?

I detailed a 1999 Tahoe for one the guys I work with on the FD. He dropped the truck off the night before, and I put it in my garage for the night, and I didn`t take a good look at it.

When I took it out, I noticed a huge brown stain on the passenger side glass and door, with streaks running down the side onto the rear passenger door.

Imagine my surprise when washing did not remove the streaks or the stain. I figured that it would come out with paint cleaning clay...wrong again!

"So"... I said to myself... "maybe it will come out when I buff it".

Tried Meguiar`s #2 fine cut cleaner: no luck.

    Tried DACP: no luck.

Tried 3M microfinishing compound with a wool pad: took out the streaks, but there were still these brown stains that apparently bonded with the paint.

At thisa point, I paged the owner, who told me that the stain happened when his daughter borrowed the Tahoe for a weekend trip and broke the heated mirror. Of course, she didn`t wash it, the weather was hot and the damage was done.

Has anyone else dealt with this kind of problem? I though that heated mirrors just had wiring in the glass.

PS: even the window was etched..the major part of the gunk came off using a razor blade, but you could still see where the fluid was on the window!

That`s pretty crazy. I`ve seen stuff like that b4. Sometimes i can get it off with sanding. Othertimes i`ve gone through the clear trying and had to repaint. Sometimes working in a body shop has it`s advantages. It always amazes me how durrable and how fragile clear really is.
