    Question Swirls Returned after SSR1..

Got a call today from a customer and he said some of the swirl marks i removed came back. He had some paint work done( spoilers and rocker panels) and when they buffed the car for him they swirled it up big time!!! should have taken some before pictures but didn`t have time. I used SSR1 with a yellow Buff and Shine pad and a DW 800 at 1400 rpms. I read threads about the SSR line of products before i purchased any and i was sure i read that there are no fillers in them. Please correct me if i`m wrong. If there are not fillers in a product and after the Swirls were removed, what would make them come back? He is bringing the car back Sun. so i can look at it and correct the problem.

Here is an after picture. Not a very good one but here it is.
    Thanks...

My guess is that the swirls were deeper than originally thought, the SSR1 made the finish very shiny and optically gone, but to make sure you removed them all, a common practice is to use an iso/ alchohol test to make sure, or use PP to get more clarity. No fillers are in SSR`s but there are PD`s which could give the impression that they were filled if not thoroughly buffed out afterwards....

also if a body shop induced these swirls, I would think that a stronger SSR was really needed to remove them SSR2 or 2.5...

If you are a perfectionist, or being paid to remove swirls, after using polishes , it is recommended to use a Isopropyl Alcohol/Water mist 50/50 with a clean mf towel to make sure they are fully removed.

Like Steve said the 50/50 (iso alcohol/water) mixture is a good way of seeing if there are any swirls still visible on the car. You could also get some halogen lights (500w to 1000w) and inspect the car in the garage with the garage door closed if it is still daylight outside. This will definitely reveal any swirls still on the vehicle.

Also, recommed using SSR2 or SSR2.5 to remove the swirls.

O.K. It took him long enough but the guy finally brought the Bemmer back so i can look at it. the swirls came back above the rear tire on the driver side. if you check the picture out above it looks like they are gone. He had some paint work done on that fender and when i buffed it there was two spots that would not brighten up like the rest of the car. that is were the swirls came back. since i`m no expert on paint work, is that something the body guy did wrong or is it something i should be able to correct.
    TIA Scott

without actually seeing the car it would be hard to say, but if i were to guess, then I`d say that area needed to be wet sanded and then buffed out...not your fault ..this needed a much more intense repair than SSR1
