it will remove the rust, but you have to be carefull, because you dont want to be to agressive, and scratch the finish. (been there, done that, thank god it was on my old truck) :grrr
I used PB PP on meglected chrome wheels and it removed the rust well, i just need to polish them up becuase they look dull.

Believe it or not, Turtle Wax Chrome Polish has been the best for all the chrome I have on my daily driver. I have gotten some rust spots over the years, and this is the best at removing them, and I`ve tried a ton of metal polishes.

Believe it or not, I would use aluminum foil and some soapy water. You might be surprised.
