Default When to compound and polish?

I've got a 2016 black Lexus which has been subject to the Atlanta interstates for the last two years. Believe it or not, the paint is in pretty good shape...it just needs a deep cleaning. I plan to clay the car sometime in the near future but wanted some expert advice regarding compounds and polishing.

When is this necessary? After a wash, should i clay, compound, polish, and wax (in that order)? If necessary, how often should this be done? I'm guessing "as needed"...

Your order (wash, clay, compound, polish then wax) is correct.

Generally, folks clay twice a year unless some unforeseen circumstance causes you to need clay sooner.

Compound is necessary when you want to remove surface defects - scratches, swirls, etc. polish brings the part back up to its even shine, and then wax to protect it.

You may only need to compound once every year or 2, depending on paint color ( the darker the color, the more noticeable and frequent the need), technique when washing, and general paint care. Polish when you start noticing the paint isn't as shiny as you'd like.

Hope this helps.

And welcome to waxforum. Tiger Pride? Auburn or LSU?
