Default Necessary?

As we all know, washing/drying microfiber towels with fabric softener or dryer sheets is a big no no.

Well during a conversation with a buddy over a couple beers, he hit me with a shocker. According to him, "you should wipe down your washer and dryer with a 50/50 mixture of water and alcohol prior to washing your microfiber towels". He says this will ensure that no residue from the fabric softener or dryer sheets (used with regular clothing) is left behind to ruin your good microfiber towels. I simply laughed, told him he was crazy and moved on to a new topic.

Does anyone else wipe their dryer and washing machine down with a similar concoction prior to laundering their precious microfiber? He's been in the detail game a lot longer than I have, but this seems a little over the top to me.

All opinions welcome.

Even as anal as I am, that's too much.

I'd say you're safe to let the washer and dryer do their job without an IPA wipe down.

I have been known to wipe down the dryer after my wife used softener sheets on the prior load.

My better half uses fabric softener in the washer and dryer sheets every load... I've never did a wipe down, but I could imagine the look on her face and comments if she caught me in the act lol.

I will clean the washer and dryer with some APC afterwards.
