    HELP on ASPIRE!!!

    Hello All,

I had a great marketing Sunday! I walked a new neighborhood and passed out 400 flyers door to door and booked, 6 full details, one a Lincoln Navigator, an express wax and a regular wash. Not bad for $20 worth of flyers and about 4 hours of walk time. My legs are killing my though!

I need some serious help though, up until now I`ve only done friends and family autos, and none have been as bad as a few of these.

First Up: Seriously Oxidated Ford Aspire. The hatch is terrible, see pic!

A few questions on prep, I am going to use a rotary, so:

    1. How do you remove the fish sysmbol?

    2. How would you put it back on?

    3. Suggestions on the Aspire sticker, half of it is all ready off, can
it be removed with a solvent and a new sticker purchased?

    4. Would you use the same solvent to remove the bumber
    sticker?

    AS ALWAYS, TIA!!!

Will touch up paint do anything to this? As a temporary fix of course. My hopes are to get a more uniform color, overall and get a decent shine, the customers expectations are not that high, but I want to blow her away.

Here is a before pic for reference. What products would you use?

I`m thinking, SSR3, CLAY, SSR2, SSR1, AIO and then mgs NXT

    What do you think?

Im thinking clay, then AIO then apply NXT. No need to really polish so hard the oxidation will come off from AIO if the paint has swirls then use a swirl remover.

AIO is good, but I haven`t had THAT GOOD of results from it. Obviously, it hasn`t been taken care of. I think you could skip SSR3 and then go SSR2, SSR1, then NXT. AIO just doesn`t WOW me in this particular regimen; I think you`ll take away from the looks of SSR1.

Anyone else feel the same, or am I going nuts again?

As for the Apire sticker, get rid of it!! A heat gun and fingernail should do it. Maybe some goo-gone afterwards. If she wants to replace it, tell her to go to a sign shop or get some cool metal ones made like the ones jngrbrdman found http://www.detailcity.com/forums/sho...ight=DC+emblem

To remove the Fish emblem, use a heat gun again and pry it loose. To replace, Pepboy`s (local if you need it quick) or Premium Auto Care sells emblem adhesive to replace it. You might even be able to give the Christian symbol a good polishing while it`s off. :pray

    stickers

I would talk to the customer first and see what they want you to do with the stickers. The Aspire one I would leave alone since its from factory. The bumpersticker is half gone so that I would remove. If you never removed a sticker with a heat gun before becareful. Its real easy to melt the paint especially on that plastic bumper. I would talk to the customer see what they want you to do and go from there. Good luck with the detail and post some after pics.
    GOOD LUCK!!!!!

    1. How do you remove the fish sysmbol?
You could also use fishing line and gently "floss" it off. Then remove any residue with 3M or other Adhesive Remover.

    2. How would you put it back on?
Prep the surfaces; both the paint and the back of the emblem (clean, free of wax and residue), use quality double-sided adhesive trim tape, apply to back of emblem, then trim excess with an exacto knife, stick it on the car and you`re done.

    3. Suggestions on the Aspire sticker, half of it is all ready off, can
Yes, it could be removed with solvent and a heat gun (careful!), and as Agent Phonarsaid, check with owner regarding this.

    4. Would you use the same solvent to remove the bumber
Yes. Mineral spirits, thinner, goo-off; experiment with several just for kicks.

    Good luck!
