got a date with a plane

i detailed a bmw 740i this week (i have pictures but we`re having all kinds of computer problems and i can`t get them to load) and the owner was impressed with the job. so asks if i would be interested in detailing his plane. so tuesday i`m heading out to the airport to detail his plane. it has fairly new paint and is always stored in a hanger. he`s also having it washed for me.

my question is, has anyone ever detailed a plane (exterior only)? if so any suggestions? this should be quite an experience.

i`m not sure exactly what kind it is. i do know it`s big. i think it seats 6 or 8. he showed me a model he has of it in his office. i`ve got a 14` step ladder i`m planning on taking with me. i`ll take an 8` also so i`m covered either way. we also left the pricing open because i have know idea how long it will take. it should be interesting to say the least.

well i waxed the plane today. it wasn`t bad at all. it took longer to get through the sercuity than it did to wax the plane, lol...

it took about two hours since all i had to do was just wax it. i could reach everything from a 6` ladder so it was pretty easy. i used high gloss sealant glaze. i went with a scientific method for choosing sg... it has a picture of a plane on the front. i figured if anyone asked, i would look more professional with a sealant with a plane on the bottle, lol...

i am sure of one thing, i don`t have the same passion for detailing a plane as i do a car. i detailed a white 740i today and enjoyed it much more. the plane has waaaaayyyy to much metal. plus with all of the rivets and groves and so forth, it just doesn`t look as clean as a car. it did turn out nice though.

I have been reading from this forum for some time and often wondered if anyone here every detailed something other than autos. I have been doing detailing for some time now and have found that expanding into planes and boats help my business A LOT. This is the first time I have every felt compelled to write.
Planes are fun!! They do require a litte more work than an auto, with the degressing of the bottom and all, but look really great upon completition. All I can say is, "Do some research first and don`t let anything scare you." I hope that I attached some photos for you to see what I have done.

    ardetailing

Very cool !!! Maybe detailcity should have another section devoted to detailing other than automobiles (boats, planes, motorcycles, etc...). I know I would have some questions about what type of chemicals (polishes, waxes, etc...) to use on these different surfaces and the techniques involved in reconditioning the surfaces of these different vehicles. Just a thought.

P.S. That red stang looks awesome !!!
