Is it recommended NOT to use a qd with silicone when claying?

I`ve used FD for a couple of touch-ups with clay, and it seemed to work fine. :dunno

I agree with Boss. I also have used FD with no problems. My preference is to use S&W because of it`s cleaning abilities.

    Just my thoughts here ...
If you use a QD with silicone:
    1. Does the silicone left on the finish cause problems with the polishes or bonding of sealants?
    2. Will the silicone eventually take away from the effectiveness of the clay bar?
I don`t know for sure but because of these concerns I use a lube without silicone for claying (FI)

I`ve used a silicone QD with clay. No problems for me either. However, I would hesitate to use a carnauba QD with clay. IMHO, carnauba QD`s aren`t normally very slick and wouldn`t not provide enought lubricity.

If I am going to use a sealant, I would always have at least one cleaning or polishing step between the clay and the sealant. That step will take care of removing any traces of silicone from the QD.

    Poorboy,
That is what I was trying to get at with my #2 Concern. I would think that the silicone might penetrate the clay and either cause it to deteriate or become slippery to the point of not being effective. So little lube is required to use the clay that I just keep a non silicone one handy for that purpose.

I think so too, but I don`t think the effects on the clay wouldn`t be see until it sat after use and was absorbed into the clay....I would think it would harden the clay and make its life much shorter:dunno

I use clay one time, then discard(I tear a piece off). I also use carwash as the lube so I guess I don`t have to worry about silicone in the QD, the clay will be trashed when I get done with it anyway.
