    New detail process

    My 600th post!

This weekend I did the exterior of a car, and for the sake of change, I tried a new technique, which was:

Section by section (or a panel each time).

    No previous wash.

Each section had full attention each time. The dirt was cleaned with S&W, clayed where needed and immediately cleaned w/ MF. Then cleaned with 3M PI-III FC, polished with MP and glazed w/ FG.
Then to the next panel repeating the same steps.

When the car was all done this way, with the typical dust from cut-polishing steps, I finally washed it and dry. In the end, wax and dress.

    Different approach, not?

Did your pads dry out between sections? I would think if you used 3m cleaner then the other steps, by the time you get to the next panel the 3m would dry on your pad (and thus scratch). Did you do something to prevent this?

I`m kinda with jeff here. I`ve tried it and even with minimal splater. Just the light compound dust can ruin a perfectly finnished pannel.

Worked very well. First I only used the PC, then I always wash the pads after some applications before I move on. Third, even with the rotary, you`ll have splatter almost always (tho I did a couple of jobs without it) but when we work from top to bottom the LITTLE splatter from water based products washes away when the car is finally washed.

It worked fro me this way, doesn`t mean I`ll always to it.
