    Paint types

    On PB`s website it says:

    "CLEARCOATS, LACQUER, ENAMEL,
    IMRON, PEARL, FIBERGLASS,
    and GEL COATS"

Can anyone describe how each of these are paint? I know clearcoat it, but how does Fiberglass qualify as a type of paint.

I believe that Imron is a trade name that Dupont uses for polyurethane enamel, not 100% positive but I`m sure PB will answer this one.

Did a quick google search, and you are correct. Used alot to repaint boats and fleet vehicles.

First you need to go back and read again ...it says "Finishes" not paint...

Second if you have had all the people who come up to me that own Corvettes or Street Rods and ask me if it`s safe for Fiberglass , and they are thinking it`s different than any other painted surface then you`d understand why i wrote it...I deal with a lot of Corvette and Street Rod owners and a few clubs too...

Third...Imron is a favorite of fleet vehicles for longevity and abuse and it is a Dupont product...very hard to deal with though...and almost always gets runs in the paint....we use to paint the PacTel phone trucks with the stuff..for those of you in California..

Fourth ..gel coats are found on boats and on hard tonneu(sp) covers on pick up trucks....

Fifth..enamel is and should be a given as Pearl is a type of high gloss , very expensive paint that is also very hard to get right , but when done right has the best look ..IMO..

see now you made me write a long response

That was my first thought the Corvette alot of people seem to think the rear fiberglass part is different then the all the other painted parts for some wierd reason.

I know that and that`s why i wanted to clear that up....

Koop it`s all about the weight....if it was made of steel the Vette would be a dog...but that`s for another thread....

the Fiberglass is also a very easy repair for those who do it often...and it is also very easy to mold and make extremely smooth....

Why Vette owners think they have something different than anyone else(paintwise) I`ll never know..it must be all the $$$ they spend.
