Question how often to condition leather?

How often should leather be conditioned???cleaned???I do mine (I have a 2000 Acura TL with light color leather) every week (conditioning, I clean it once a month). Then someone has told me that using too much conditioning chemicals is bad for leather. So how often to condition? Clean?

Once a week is probably a bit too often...I would suggest more like once every 4 to 8 weeks depending upon how you use the car...

If your an in an out of the car salesman...then maybe once every couple of weeks on the areas that get the most traffic....

I think you just like the smell of the product.

Will cleaner/conditioner damage leather in any way due to cleaning/conditioning it too often?

I would only use the Leather Cleaner once every 6 months....remember Leather is like skin and needs to be treated gentle. There really is no reason to overuse these products....

Really even using the conditioner once a month is a bit much...I would go every other month...

Yes...overuse can damage leather....just as in any cleaning application...too much of a good thing....

Thanks for the advice. I'm afraid that here, in Sacramento my leather can get "cooked" since it gets up to 110 degrees. My car is white Acura TL 2000 with light color leather. I don't want to overcondition, otherwise it will be like a BBQ sause , but at the same time want leather not to be wearing out...Car covers...How well do they work??? A car cover should also add a shield of protection, right??? A friend of mine has a 2000 Mits Eclipse with same color leather (dark red metallic car), and his leather "feels" newer than mine. Could that be because he uses a car cover? Or park indoors? I never do...

A car cover could likely make the difference. I have them for all my cars, and cover them in the garage, at the airport, and when traveling.

There are numerous car cover manufacturers, and all the good ones use Kimberly-Clark material:

Evolution - my favorite. It's 4 layers thick so it offers protection from door dings.
NOAH - 3 layers, so slightly less bulky but the same environmental protection.
Dustop - an indoor material for garage use that won;t absorb moisture like flannel lined cotton will.

In addition, there are speciality materials for areas like the desert, etc. (not that Sacramento is in the desert or anything).

You can check out all the materials at:

I'd suggest you go with a custom fit, and buy the cable/lock kit so no one steals the cover.

Hope this helps.

110? is under the tempreture leather is subjected too in some of the final stages of finishing...
I'd be concerned with UV long before heat.

It's real easy to spot Forrest when he is driving around town. Just look for the guy who puts his car cover on while waiting for the traffic signal to change.
