Default Proper care of bare Aluminum

I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on taking care of aluminum. I have an aluminum trailer and I just purchased this boat and made long drive with it I had put a tarp on the nose of the trailer and now the aluminum turned black. How do I get this off it was not a polished trailer more of a natural aluminum, I tried to clean it off but started to get shiny, I wouldn't mind it but is it hard to keep shiny? I have some polished aluminum parts on the boat also and there are some scuff/black marks on the boat I polished most of them out but there are some fine scuff marks can they be wet sanded out and still bring back the polished look? Thanks very much for any help.

dods44,

Welcome to Wax Forum!

I'm sorry our Marine specialist has been offline, but we'll try to help.

Please provide the make, model and year -- we'd want to establish if the boat has an anodized or other special finish.

You might also check with the dealer.

I detail boats as a profession and I been using the Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish. On all the chrome. It protects and cleans better then any product I have found. Over the last 20 years I have tested just about every product I can get my hands on. And Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish is #1

Thanks for the praise of our ... We generally recommend against the use of aluminum polish on chrome; instead, use our Chrome Polish.
