Question CMX Questions

So summer is right around the corner here in Michigan and that means its time to restore what the winter has taken away.

I am an avid user of Mothers paste wax, quick detailer, and spray wax.

I actually wax the vehicle every weekend and use the detailer and spray wax to maintain during the week. (Since I can only do a complete hand wash once every weekend due to where I live)

However, im really interested in the new CMX coating but worry about the upkeep practices.

1. How do you maintain the vehicle in between washes? Can I still use the detailer?
2. Continuing from #1, if I use the detailer, will it affect the bonding properties of the CMX if I decide to re-apply it every weekend like I do with standard wax?

I understand that the CMX is very durable and may not need to be layered, but my habit is to do full cleans and seals on my vehicle every weekend (I don't mind doing it). I actually strive to make it look like the car is always freshly waxed. Its my obsession.

You can maintain CMX with an instant detailer if that's your normal process.

But it’s the same process as applying CMX, so you’ll need to decide if it’s worth the time.

I doubt you’ll notice any issues with bonding against the instant detailer given your short regimen.

Are you stating that CMX also acts as a detailer to maintain but also seal?

Not at all. I'm stating the application/removal process and time involved to do so, are the same between an instant detailer and a coating.

Why go with a detailer when in the same amount of time (and effort) you can apply a layer of a coating?

I think we got mixed up somewhere.

I'm talking about the detailer being used during the week to make quick work of removing road grime, bugs, etc and if using the detailer would negatively affect the application of Cmx on the weekends.

I'm mainly trying to figure out if I can swap the wax for the cmx but still be able to maintain my regiment of detailing during the week.

While using detailer and spray wax during the week, i know that paste wax on the weekend will apply with no problem and boost protection.

But i dont know if that will be the same for the CMX

If you maintain during the week with our Instant Detailer or Waterless Wash, and then wash it on the weekend and use CMX to boost the protection, that's a sound regimen.

Thank you very much for that info. I believe I have found my wax replacement!

I just picked up some CMX at the Mother's truck at Barret-Jackson. I thought ok, another Sio2 "ceramic" spray has entered the market.

The next day I did a thorough wash, and with a rectangle microfiber applicator, I did a cross hatch application and removed it with a microfiber towel.

Things I did.
* Simple process "prime" the microfiber applicator with a few sprays first.
* A slightly damp microfiber can be used for removal to eliminate any streaks.
* I used a dry microfiber towel to dry the surface after product removal.

All I can say is WOW! I did not expect it to work as well and look as good as it does. It was slightly more difficult than applying wax or quick detailer.

It has a nice shine and it is highly hydrophobic. Water beads just fly off the surface. I am impressed with how easy it is to apply/remove vs. a bottle coating.

Now, will it last as long as a bottle coating? Probably not, but with the ease of use and great results CMX makes a great stand-alone or coating topper.

Things I found: It did not have a cure time WOWO. It did not rainbow like bottle coatings or other spray-on WOWO ceramic coatings.
