Default I Used Mag & Aluminum Polish on Chrome Wheels!!!!

I recently used Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish on my chrome rims since my friend, who works at a car wash told me they use it all the time. I then read the product instructions which said it is not to be used on chrome. Have I done major damage to the chrome? These are brand new rims and my first time cleaning them. It seems like there is a small smudge or streak in the chrome now...If someone could give me some advice I'd appreciate it.

Welcome to Wax Forum!

We're sorry to hear you arrive in a panic, but we're glad to see you.

Mag & Aluminum Polish can scratch modern chromes, and this is one reason why we don't recommend its use except in situations where there is severe rust or other challenges.

It is very likely the "smudge" you see is some light scratching to the chrome, where extra effort was applied.

For routine use, we recommend our Chrome Polish for shine and protection on modern hardened chromes -- except those chromes that are Metallike, clearcoated, or black chrome -- these finishes are often offered on some GM cars (e.g., Corvettes), Lexus, and other premium brands, as well as in the aftermarket.

What wheels do you have? Please specify brand, model and finish if they are aftermarket.

You might advise your friend at the car wash that our Mag & Aluminum Polish should only be used on bare metals.

Is there any possible fix or correction for that? Is the problem going to continue getting worse or will it stop if I start using the correct polish? Thank you for the quick response!

They are Arelli F-16 B, 20 inches. Are there any possible products to fix that? They are brand new.

Thanks again

Do they look like the wheel pictured below? And if so, is the "smudge" on the chrome part or the black part?

I'm not so sure if this will actually work but I'm guessing that Chrome Polish with PowerBall MD will remove those light scratches.

What do you think, admin?

PowerBall MD is far too aggressive to use on chrome.

Scratches in chrome cannot be polished out - chrome is a hard thin plating, not a thick soft metal.

We don't even know for certain there are scratches in his chrome plating - a close up picture would help, though.

Learned something new today. Thanks for the info, Forrest.

And yes, a close up picture on Macro Settings would surely help a lot.

Soon as I clean them again with some chrome Polish, I'll take a pic and show you. Plus, it's too cold outside :-)
