So how did detail city do it

I started a sports talk forum, and was wondering how detail city became the thriving community it is now. Any tips on how to get members to my forum would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

    thanks
It certainly didn`t happen overnight. It took about 8 months before we really started to see a steady growth.

During the first 8 months we had a small group of core members that really set the tone and atmosphere for what Detail City is today.

My first suggestion would be to not take the forum too seriously. Yes, there is a time to be informative and serious but to also keep in mind that we are all sitting on our rear ends in front of a computer and life is too short to get worked up over trivial things.

Second, I personally do not have time to entertain internet trolls or spammers. They are typically escorted out very quickly.

Third, patience and persistance. It takes time to get indexed by all the search engines. Just keep talking and do not let the forum go stagnant, search engines love fresh content.

Finally, ban The Fuzz is he stops by and tries to be a mod. We only have a little over 2000 members and I can`t help but wonder if it would be over 10,000 by now if people weren`t so intimidated by his smoothness. :naughty (This was a perfect example of being informative and funny all in the same post by the way...)

I hope you have much success!

    dwayne thanks for the reply.

when you mean keeping content fresh, you mean things that i can add? like articles etc? Obviously not posts cause i only have 2 members.

    Thanks.

Well another thing to do is: POST THE SITE IN YOUR REPLY!!
Every time you talk about your site let people know where to go. I`m sitting here reading this thread and wondering to myself, where is the URL???!?!?!?!?!

I think there are few enough detailing boards out there that Detail City was just a breath of fresh air. Autopia is huge and one can feel lost there. Moderating on that board was a full time job. I can imagine that it isn`t nearly as hard to moderate over here. People just seem to follow the rules and are pleasant. You don`t see arguments or flame wars that the moderators have to put out. I think guests pick up on that and want to join because of the friendly and upbeat atmosphere. DC has a funny personality that I enjoy a lot. It takes some time to build up to that. DC wasn`t always so populated. They are definitely on the map now, though. Just put in a search on google and it almost always comes up with a Detail City thread. In fact, Detail City is the only board I have ever been linked to when doing research on google. Being out there in the search engines is a great way to drive traffic to your site.

I tell ya`, I literally dropped my other boards and spend much of my free time here at DC because the people are so cool. I`ve never wanted to get together with a great group of guys to hang out and drink a beer so much before (wait a minute, that doesn`t sound right :nono)

What I`m trying to say is that everyone respects each other over here, and you can really get to know people on here, even on a first name basis.

Keep it down to earth, and setting the tone is the big thing. Good luck with it!
