    My Show Car- Pics!

Figured it was about time to get some pics up here of my Show Car.

This is a 1983 Mercury Cougar SVT, and I restored it from the ground up.

Swapped darn near everything on the car, engine, steering, suspension, wiring, body work, paint, etc etc etc.

Still working on it also, but I don`t think that part ever stops because, hey; I`m a guy, it`s a car.

    Yeah nuff said.

These are some shots of it from my first show this year with the car. Took 2nd place out of 75 entries at this one!

    Enjoy!

It`s nice to see some appreciation for cars from the 80`s. You don`t see too many of them at car shows let alone someone who likes them enough to restore one. Great job on the resto. I also like how you customized it. People get too critical with 100% originality in a resto.... I think it`s your car do what you want with it. What color is that? It looks like an indigo.

Ford SVT :Bright Sapphire Blue Metallic.

    Base and clear.

Thank God for the clear coat! The base coat itself is chalkboard dull. Definantely a muti-step paint job.

I make a car my own when I re-do them. Not much remains OEM Spec with my Cougar. I simply take what the factory gave me, and improve on it.

I`ve always loved the 83-88 Fox Chasiss Fords; just something about their entire build that intrigues me. Quite a following for them too: www.coolcats.net www.tccoa.com etc etc etc.

I bought this car 3 years ago from a guy who was going to drive it to the salvage yard just to be rid of it. I offered him $100 on the spot, he agreed. Clear Title and all- the car was mine.

So far I have 3 years and roughly $11,000 in the car........... And counting.

    Thanks for the comments!

    Looks great!
Welcome to the world of restoration. I did one car years ago and don`t have any interest in ever doing another. I spent 2 years looking for taillight chrome bezels that were even good enouigh to have rechromed.
A friend of mine that has several, says take your best cost estimate, triple it, and you won`t be short by more than a couple thousand.

    Thanks!

    Here`s the run down:

    4* Ultimate Auto Wash
    4* Ultimate Clay
    4* Ultimate Auto Wash
    4* UPC x 2 with rotary
3M Swirl Mark Remover for Dark Cars with rotary
    Meg`s NXT x 2 - 1st with rotary, second by hand
    4* UPP x 3 - all by hand
4* UGE - by the truckload!

I`ve gotten a ton of compliments and repeated head turns with the car, dunno, must be the inconspicuous color?

It`s still in progress, and I easily see myself dropping at least another $20K into the car over the next few years; Interior, Another Engine Swap, etc etc etc.

Charles, you are completey right on the Money thing!

Yes, it`s a pleasurable money pit! he he he!

This one is not a daily driver, spends it`s off days and nights inside, and sleeps in a heated warehouse all winter long.

I`ve since picked up a trashed 89 Mustang (Clear Title as well) and begun restoring it also.

You wouldn`t believe how much easier paint detailing becomes when you can lay down your own paint!

Thanks again for the kind words!
