I just recently went to home depot and bought some of the handing 2 bulb flourescent shop lights. They cost about $10 or so...they don`t have a cover and they hang by two chains. I put them around the perimeter of the car area. The only thing now though is the rear of the car isn`t that well lit because of my garage door...I can`t put any lights there because of the clearance

bah 28` isn`t very high! j/k. you`re right. I actualy realised this after i posted. I think i would be satisfied with what i have if it where in a smaller area. I don`t think i would get any less than what i have though.

no only the ones in our paint booths are so we can do acurate color matching. They are too expensive to spring for in other places in the shop.

Im guessing Color Corrected bulbs are those closest to sun light or 4000K so you can match the color as it would look out in the sun.

    Poorboy,
I think that is where my biggest problem will be. Maybe I will put the fluorescent in for overhead light and try and mount the halogen lighting on either side (high on the walls) in an attempt to more evenly light the garage. I think I will still have a problem by the garage door though. I guess I will have to break out the halogen work lamp for that area Gotta make sure I don`t hit any wires with the garage door opener though

Do flourecent lights show swirls well. ? I find the Halogen work lights to give off to yellow light to accuretly see the swirls.

Florecents are the best for finding swirls if you ask me. The worse the better. If they are flickering it`s the best. Honelsty when the light osolates it`s easier to see fine marks as diffrences in lighting is more pronounced when it flashes. And instead of getting halogens for the side I would just mount some more florecants. I hate mixing my light scheem. The colors diffrence makes it hard for me.

Blacklites are expensive and get hot as heck though, if you are in a low-ventilation room, that may not be a good idea.

I have a one car garage with 6 four foot fluorescent lights and its not enough, I could easily use 2 more at the front and rear of the car plus a couple on the sides.

    Re: Proper garage lighting

26 yrs as electrician.now full time run my own detail shop all you need is one 8 ft strip light on each side of car on ceiling.get ether ho which is high output or vho which is very high output daylight is the bulb color they show swirls better then other lighting vapor lights are pricey and they go off after they are turned on. they have to cool down before they will come back on
