whats best for rust on metal?

after living through a nice canadian winter, my exhaust tip is pretty well rusted
is there anything i can do to bring it back to its orignal shine?
the tip is suppose to be stainless steel, apparently its not, its probably just polished steel or something

    can i just use clr?

    thanks!

Try the CLR, why not? Let us know if it works. I would suggest a fine grade steel wool and some metal polish. That SHOULD do the trick.

are you sure they are not chrome? if they are forget it..you can shine them but the plating is on its way out...stainless should come right back...but shouldn`t have rusted...use a non-abrasive polish and some 00 steel wool...but very lightly...I said very lightly...ok just making sure..lol

Unfortunately, not all stainless steel is stainless. Some low grade SS is out there. I have actually seen SS sinks with rust on them. Another thing that sometimes happens is cleaning with steel wool and having fine particles of the steel wool that are embedded in the SS rust. You can Buy SS steel wool or use some of the non-metallic abrasive pads.

You could try some ScratchX. I`ve gotten rust off my `````in camaro with that before. My Dad has a truck that I have taken rust off his bumpers with before too. It may work. I`ve taken it off chrome and steel and it hadn`t mattered. Its been good on everything. I`m thinking about brushing my teeth with it but I`ll leave testing like that to Blinded.
