Question What is up with the 50/50 alcohol and water mix

It`s probably a stupid question but I have seen a couple people use this. Someone mentioned it before washing the car and it was mentioned while using swirl remover to check your progress. I just want to know what it actually does.

I cleans the area you just worked on of any residual oils, dust or fillers allowing you to judge how well you actually did at removing rather than filling the swirls. Very useful step in the process. Do I do it all the time....no way. I doubt anybody does. But if you really want to see and kow for sure how well a product and pad combo is doing that is a good way to check.
