Good for the finish? IMO, Probably not.
Bad for the finish? IMO, It doesn`t have to be.
    Not much help was I?

Lots of people think they scratch the finish of a vehicle.
    I don`t think they do.
I have been using them for quite a few years and haven`t had a problem. Lots of black cars during that time, too.
The CCD`s I use are not the ones from Wal*Mart, although those may be fine, too.
Mine have the wood handles and the yarn is probably twice the thickness of the yarn on those at Wal*Mart.
One of mine is about 16 years old and still works good. I also have one of the "Super Dusters" that has the yarn completely surrounding the wood handle so it is actually round.
I quite often CCD and then use a quick detail product when the vehicles are just dusty and I don`t feel the need for a complete wash.

:wait :wait :wait Don`t give up on the Wal*Mart CCD just yet. If it is working for you, why not continue to use it?
My experience is only with the wood handle CCD, but the Wal*Mart/parts store units might work fine, too.

I have numerous CCDs from Pep Boys/ Walmart with no problems at all. One is ten years old. I agree with Charles W, it is safe.

i agree...I wouldn`t use one on a car that is more than a little dusty!

I use mine on my Black Mustang Convertible and it works great....

    Thumbs up

I have the same type of CCD as Charles has (wood hanlde) I picked it up at car show about 14 years ago. I think they work great. The key in using them is to lightly fan the surface of the car not rest the entire thing on the surface and dust in that manner. I give it a good shake from time to time.
